| 1961 | Referendum to establish a municipal library defeated. |

| 1966 | Groundbreaking for new municipal building/library. |
| 1967 | Library opens in Municipal Building; 1600 library cards were issued the first week of operations! |

| 1972 | First annual Friends of the Library Book Sale |
| 1973 | 1,000,000th CIRCULATION! |
| 1974 | Ground breaking for the current building |
| 1975 | Library adds Sunday hours. |
| 1976 | Jim Hess named NLA and ALA Trustee of the Year. |
| 1977 | Library adds first public access computer. |
| 1981 | DeVoe branch closes. TLC (Teen Library Connection) program inaugurated. |
| 1984 | 5,000,000th CIRCULATION. |
| 1991 | 10,000,000th CIRCULATION. |

| 1993 | First annual Storytelling Festival |
| 1997 | 15,000,000th CIRCULATION. |
| 1998 | Carol Phillips, Head of the Library's Youth Services Department, named NJLA Librarian of the Year. |
| 1999 | Computer Training Lab opened. |
| 2000 | Library website, ebpl.org, established. First annual Phyllis Noar Puppetry Festival. |
| 2003 | 20,000,000th CIRCULATION. |
| 2006 | Wi-Fi capability implemented |
| 2007 | Cafe opened. |
| 2008 | Library collection - 190,202 volumes (print and media) Annual Circulation - 955,287 30,242 library cardholders. |
| 2009 | 25,000,000th CIRCULATIONLibrary Push Out opens. The Push out is a new 2,000-square-foot "push out" that will provide more space for children’s programming, quiet reading and study for adults and information on health issues. |
