My Account

How do I get a library Card?

  • Click on Services in the navigation menu on the left side of every page.
  • Click on Borrower Services.
  • Information about how to get a library card is at the top of the page.

How do I access My Account?

  • You can access a link to your account from every page on the library's web site from the navigation menu on the left side of the page where it says Renew/Check My Account.
  • Enter your library card number in the top box and your four digit PIN in the box below.
  • You can also access your account from the Catalog Quick Search box on the library, Kids' or Teens home pages where it also says Renew/Check My Account.

Can I change My PIN online ?

Yes, you can change your PIN if you know your current PIN number. (The default is the last 4 digits of your phone number.) If you don't remember your current PIN, you will have to check with the Circulation Department staff for your number.

  • Click on the Renew/Check My Account link from the navigation menu.
  • Enter your library card number in the top box and your 4 digit PIN in the box below to log in to your account.
  • Click on Profile.
  • Scroll down the page until you see Personal Identification Number (PIN).
  • Enter your old PIN in the top box.
  • Then enter your new PIN number in the 2 boxes following and click on Update.

How do I find information about Fines and Fees?

Information about fines and fees is located in The Library's Circulation Policy .

  • Click on About Us at the VERY top of every page of the main library, Kids and Teens pages (or, from the About The Library button in the purple left navigation menu).
  • Click on Charges (for lost materials) or Loan periods, Fees, or Borrowing Limits (for fines) in the menu on the top right side of the page.

Using the Library Catalog

How do I search the catalog?

You can access a link to catalog search from every page on the library's web site from the navigation menu on the left side of the page where it says Renew/Check My Account. Click on the Search the Library Catalog tab when you get there using this link.

  • You can also search the catalog directly from the library home page or the Kids' or Teens home pages. image
  • A Catalog Quick Search box is at the top right of the content area of each of these home pages.
  • You may fill in your keywords right in the box on the page,
  • Select the type of search - Any keyword, title keyword, author keyword, Subject keyword, or ISBN, and
  • Hit <Enter> or click on the GO button.

Research Tools

How do I access the Online Databases?

Go to Research Tools in the menu on the left side of every page and click on Find Information in Online Databases. A page with an alphabetical list of all of the Online Research Databases will display.

  • imageFor easier navigation through the list, you may click on the drop down menu on the top right side of the content area of the page to see a list of subject coverage areas.
  • Click on the topic you need and only the databases that cover that subject will display.
  • Select the database you want to search and begin your search.

Find recommended Internet sites on a particular subject?

Go to Research Tools in the menu on the left side of every page and click on Recommended Websites which will appear in an expanding navigation menu. Use the subject list to find areas of interest and then click on that subject.


Hours

How do I find the library hours?

  • The library hours are located on the Hours and Directions page which is linked from the VERY top of every web page on this site.

How do I find out when The Library is closed?

  • Holiday closings will always be in The Library calendar located on the library, Kids' and Teens home pages. Click on the date in question to see if we are closed. The Holiday closings will always appear in the Featured Events on the home page.
  • Closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies will be listed in the Featured News or the Alert section at the top of the home page.

How do I find things on the new site?

  • Use the Site map to quickly and easily locate all of the pages of The Library's web site.

How do I find events happening at The Library?

  • library calendar All events that occur on the library premises are listed in the calendar on the right side of the home page of this web site This includes events for Adults, Kids, Teens, and the outside groups which use The Library meeting rooms.
  • Click on a specific date to see the events which are occurring on that date, OR
  • Click on the title - Calendar of Events to bring up a searchable calendar page.
  • To see events for outside groups that are using the library's meeting rooms click on the drop down menu next to Calendar on the calendar page. Choose General. The click on the Search button.

  • Kids and Teens have calendars on right side of their home pages that contain their events only.

From the searchable calendar page you can:

  • Move forward or backward from month to month by clicking on Next or Previous on either side of the current month display.
  • Choose the Calendar you wish to select to choose either Library (all library events) or General (events by outside groups) .
  • You can also limit the display to specific event types or subjects using those drop down menus at the top of the calendar.
  • You can specify a month for your search by selecting it from the Date drop down.
  • Finally, you must click on the Search button to activate this search.

How Do I sign up for Library Events Online?

How do I use The Library's notary services?

  • Click on Services in the navigation menu on the left side of every page.
  • Go to Public Services and then click on Notary in the expanding menu.

How do I find out about dropping off recycling materials (cell phones, ink jet cartridges, eyeglasses and batteries) at The Library?

  • Click on Services in the navigation menu on the left side of every page.
  • Go to Public Services and then click on Other Services in the expanding menu.
  • Use the drop down menu in the top right corner of the content area of the page to select Recycle Cell Phone and More.

I am having trouble reading the text on The Library's new web site. How do I increase the font size?

  • image Use the options on your browser’s Menu bar to increase the text size.
  • Go to View.
  • Click on Text Size.
  • Choose your size from the range of sizes that display from smallest to largest.
  • Or, use the following keyboard shortcuts:
    • Ctrl+ - to increase font size
    • Ctrl- - to decrease the font size
  • Depending upon the size you choose, the text may pop out of the boxes on the page slightly, but the site was designed to allow this flexibility.

Printing

How do I print a page from The Library web site?

  • Click on the <print page> link at the VERY top of every interior page to get a printer-friendly version of the page. This will remove the color and the graphics.

Using Library Meeting Rooms

How do I reserve a meeting room?

  • Go to Services in the navigation menu on the left side of every page.
  • Click on Meeting Rooms.
  • Click on To Book a Meeting Room in the menu in the top right side of the content area of the page. This section will provide:
    • the library's meeting room policy,
    • a copy of our room setup guide which contains layouts and room capacities, and
    • the Room Schedule view of the library calendar which shows which rooms are already used, and
    • the booking form.

How do I donate a book in memory of someone?

  • Go to AboutThe Library in the navigation menu on the left side of every page.
  • Select Help the Library from the expanding menu and then choose the way in which you would like to help.
  • Click on Tax-Deductible Contributions.
  • The ways in which you can contribute, including book plating or memorials will be listed.
  • Click on the online Book Donation form.

How do I ask a Reference Question?

  • Click on the <ask a librarian> link at the VERY top of every page to access a page with phone numbers and email information.

How do I contact Library departments?

  • Click on the <contact us> link at the VERY top of every page to access a page with library department phone numbers and links to submit questions electronically.
